Fact or Fiction? Debunking Myths about Portable Restroom Trailers

The portable restroom trailer industry is new and exciting, but because of that, there can be a lot of, well, crap to sift through.  You may have found some questionable information about mobile restroom trailers in your research. We want to help you make the most informed choice possible, so we are here to bust some myths about restroom trailers. Let’s set the record straight: Myth: Restroom Trailers Stink We all know how terrible it is to be at a concert, festival, campsite, outdoor event, and duty calls. That pit in your stomach forms when we walk up to that porta potty, knowing it will smell absolutely horrendous. Well, we can tell you one thing: a portable restroom trailer won’t have you turning up your nose and running for the hills.  Porta potties smell so awful because there is no airflow in those little plastic boxes. Combine that with heat when the weather is warm, and it’s essentially an oven. Bacteria and odors get trapped in the air, and when you breathe that in, your brain processes it as, you guessed it, stink.  With flushable toilets, we don’t have to leave waste exposed to stink up the place. Restroom trailers offer better ventilation than your traditional bathroom alternative, which helps push out nasty smells. Many options also include air conditioning that allows even further airflow.  So, are restroom trailers stinky? No.  Myth: Bathroom Trailers Are Dirty A public restroom in a building rarely gets this question asked, but we get it; it’s an alternative method of using the restroom, and there are bound to be concerns.  Well, fear not; mobile restroom trailers are just as clean as the bathroom in your office building.  Just because the bathroom is portable doesn’t make it any less clean. The use and fixtures in trailers are the same as any regular bathroom. Plus, as we said above, ventilation helps push out bacteria-ridden air. So, the cleanest bathroom that you can move around is a portable restroom trailer. So, are restroom trailers dirty? Not a chance.  Myth: Restroom Trailers Are Ugly While beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, a trailer is certainly a better option than other toilet alternatives out there.  On the outside, they aren’t brightly colored, mismatching your event's color scheme and drawing attention away. They are pretty low profile and can easily go unnoticed.  On the inside, though, they are undoubtedly showstopping. Luxury restroom trailers have marble effect interiors, glass sinks, granite countertops, or tile that match your vibe and work alongside decorative finishes to create a fabulous experience.  So, are restroom trailers hideous? Absolutely not.  Myth: Bathroom Trailers Are Tiny and Uncomfortable This could be one of the biggest myths of all. The image of the little colored plastic box may be to blame for that.  We cannot stress enough how different a portable restroom trailer is from a porta potty. Other than the convenience and mobility, there isn’t much they have in common with one another.  One of the most significant differences, though, is size and comfort.  Most restroom trailers offer a spacious area similar to a public restroom stall, if not bigger. As well, ADA-compliant restroom trailers provide even more space. Comfort is a top priority in mobile bathroom trailers, and the features offered prove that. With total privacy walls, powder rooms, air conditioning, and plenty of lighting, using the bathroom and freshening up has never been more luxurious at an outdoor event or job site.  So, are restroom trailers tiny and uncomfortable? Definitely no.  Myth: Restroom Trailers Don’t Offer the Same Fixtures as Regular Bathrooms  Restroom trailers offer flushing toilets, running water at handwash stations, mirrors, wifi, and more. There are even trailers that provide showers and laundry machines.  Whatever your needs are, there is certainly a trailer to solve them. Many trailers look and feel like your bathroom at home, so you won’t feel anything is missing when you’re in there.  So, are restroom trailers lacking in amenities? Not a chance.  Myth: Bathroom Trailers are a Hassle to Handle  To be fair, this one used to be true. Management can seem overwhelming with waste tanks that need emptying, water tanks that need filling, and power sources needing to be connected.  Thankfully, there are a lot of ways that trailer management is made more accessible. Firstly, many tanks can connect to sewer lines or be collected and disposed of by local waste management companies. Your standard garden hose can also top up your water tank. Power generators, or for a more environmentally friendly option, solar panels can provide your trailer with the energy it needs to keep the lights or wifi running smoothly. Plus, with our Smarter Restrooms App, management is easy, as you can track and order service for your trailers, all from your phone.  So, are restroom trailers a pain to service? No.  Myth: Restroom Trailers Aren’t Worth the Money We understand that purchasing or renting a trailer isn’t for everyone. However, if you regularly need toilet facilities for your events or job sites and want more for your employees and guests than a flimsy, smelly plastic toilet, then mobile bathroom trailers are worth it. We have a range of trailers that fit various needs and budgets, and we would love to work with you to find the perfect fit for you.

Navigating ADA Compliance: Everything You Need To Know

When hosting a large event, you must ensure your guests can use the bathroom without hassle or embarrassment. Catering to those with mobility issues should be a top priority. That's why we put together an easy-to-follow guide outlining the necessary steps you need to take to ensure your event and your event restroom trailer stay ADA-compliant. Understanding ADA Guidelines The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 sets legal requirements for restrooms, including portable toilets, at all public events. This is to guarantee equal opportunities for all those with disabilities to have access to facilities, such as bathrooms. You may ask yourself, do I have to abide by these laws for my event? The safe answer is probably yes, but we’ll get into it. You will need ADA trailers if your event is public or private (like a wedding) but at a hired venue or in a building. You will also need them if you are adding units to your fleet for business. 5% of your toilets must be ADA-compliant to ensure you comply with these needs. This means for every 20 stations, one needs to be accessible. Additionally, the compliant cubicles should be available to both genders. You can offer a male and a female station or a unisex station. These apply to traditional bathrooms, portable toilets, and restroom trailers. These requirements are what you control. You are responsible for ordering the proper units and the correct ratio of compliance to standard. What Do Trailers Need To Have To Be Accessible? 1.     Space and Dimensions ADA-compliant restroom trailers must have a floor space large enough to accommodate a wheelchair and for that wheelchair to move with ease. Guidelines require clear floor space with enough room for a wheelchair to move 360° in without obstructions. 2.     Entrance and Accessibility The entrance to a facility must be mobility-device accessible, which includes walkers, canes, and wheelchairs. This involves ramps of a particular slope, grab bars that can hold up to use, and wide doors with easy-to-open and close hinges to ensure users can get in and out of the toilet safely and independently. 3.      Supportive Features The ADA places a heavy emphasis on grab bars throughout the facility. This includes the ramp up to the unit, as well as near the toilet and on the walls. This provides stability and support for those who may not have a mobility device or need help getting in and out of one. Because of these grab bars, there are also requirements on the unit's structure. Walls must have a proper carrying capacity to ensure that bars are secure, and the wall is also. 4.     Accessible Fixtures and Amenities ADA-compliant restrooms rightfully require all fixtures and fittings within units to be accessible to those with disabilities. This involves lower toilet and sink fittings, appropriately positioned mirrors, soap and paper towel dispensers, a larger toilet seat, and easily flushable toilet mechanisms. 5.     Signage and Communication Toilet units that are ADA-compliant must have signage indicating that they are such. This might sound fancy, but you’ve seen it before. The blue wheelchair sign does the trick with this, as long as it includes braille labeling. This signage should be well placed in a visible area and direct users to the proper facility. 6.     Maintenance and Inspections The ADA requires regular inspections and maintenance on units to maintain compliance. Periodic checks of grab bars, ramps, and other essential features to accessibility ensure they stay in proper working order. Repairs and replacements may be necessary to pass checks and keep status. Where Can I Find ADA-Compliant Trailers? Portable Restroom Trailers proudly offers the largest selection of accessible or ADA restroom trailers in the United States. While ADA standards on the details of units change year to year, we can guarantee that our compliant trailers abide by the regulations of the year they were produced and include the features listed above. Now, when searching for ADA restroom trailers, it is important to note that there is a difference between those labeled as accessible and those that comply with regulations. Although a unit may be large enough to accommodate a wheelchair or have a ramp, ADA units have specific certifications for that year, which grant them the title of certified. If you need more than just toilets, but showers too, ADA shower trailers are also available. These meet the requirements outlined above but also include shower benches for ease of use.

5 Essential Considerations When Ordering Portable Restroom Trailers

Portable restroom trailers offer a touch of sophistication beyond standard portable bathrooms, making them ideal for various businesses and events. However, with so many options and features available, deciding what to add to your fleet and when can be overwhelming. To simplify your decision-making, here are five crucial factors to consider when ordering portable restroom trailers: 1. Define the Purpose Before delving into all the options, you must clarify the primary purpose of your trailers. Do you need additional bathroom facilities for a large event? Are attendees seeking refreshing showers or a space to change clothes? Do they need a space to store items securely? Consider specific requirements, such as gender-specific facilities, to narrow down your choices and ensure that the trailers align with your needs. 2. Identify Who You’re Serving Who will be utilizing these trailers? Is it possible that families may be using your facilities and need a little extra space, or are there any wheelchair users that require easy accessibility? Consider the diverse needs of your clientele. Don’t just purchase a standard facility that needs to be altered or, even worse, can’t be changed to meet your customers' needs. Opt for trailers that meet those requirements without the need for extensive modifications. For example, ADA restroom trailers can serve those who need a little more space or help. 3. Determine Capacity Requirements There are trailer options available to serve anywhere from one to fourteen or more people at a time. When purchasing, consider how many people will need to use the facilities at any given time and how well you can manage lines for these facilities if you know you won’t be able to avoid queues. More attended gatherings warrant higher capacity trailers; your choice can and should reflect that. Additionally, the nature of the event can affect the frequency of use. If the purpose of your trailer is to serve at events with food and drink, particularly alcohol, think about how much more frequently the attendees will need to visit the facilities. If servicing an event that involves getting muddy or sweaty, consider how many more people will want to shower off.  If it’s more for family events, think about all the tiny bladders and diaper changes that will need more frequent bathroom access. 4. Consider Necessary Features Beyond basic amenities, identify specific features essential for your audience's comfort and convenience. Do you require hot and cold running water for handwashing? Is air conditioning necessary for summer events? Make a comprehensive list of requirements to ensure the chosen trailers meet all essential criteria. With so many options, there is sure to be a trailer that meets these requirements. 5. Optimate Timing for Purchase Strategically timing your purchase can yield financial benefits, particularly for business owners. Buy portable restroom trailers before the end of the tax year to take advantage of tax benefits. If you are a registered business and intend on using your trailers for your business (not personal) purposes at least half the time, then your purchase of a portable restroom trailer can qualify for a 179-tax advantage. This means that you can write off the purchase of your trailer on your taxes and save you money. After you order your trailers, don’t forget to complete the proper IRS form 4562 to get your savings. There is a lot to consider when choosing a portable restroom trailer. The best way to tackle the overwhelming nature of trailer purchases is to make a list featuring all your information on your events or projects. List out: How many people will be using it When your clients will need the facilities How many stalls or trailers you will need Essential accommodations and features Then, you are ready to begin your search. This ensures that you know what you are looking for, and the near-endless options become a blessing, not a burden. Don’t forget to consider what facilities you need and what access you have to resources that service them. If you aren’t confident in tracking how often to service your trailers or when they suddenly need it, prioritize features like The SmarterRestrooms app. Smart mobile restroom trailers help you keep track of tank levels, power sources, temperature, and security, all from your phone, making your ability to remember when to service your trailer one less thing to consider. With this newfound knowledge under your belt, finding the perfect portable restroom trailers becomes a seamless process. Whether catering to a large event or facilitating everyday business operations, prioritize functionality, accessibility, and user comfort to make an informed decision that meets your specific needs and exceeds expectations.

What’s New And Noteworthy In The Portable Restroom And Shower Market?

The portable restroom and shower market is not new, but the new year always sparks advances in features and services. With so many fresh and fun innovations to share, let’s see what’s shaking in the portable restroom and shower game. New: Increased Demand For Portable Shower Trailers Four years ago, the whole world shared one life-altering experience. While it was not pleasant, it certainly made an impact on how we function today, years down the road.  One of the most significant changes is a greater focus on hygiene, including showering. The increased focus on whole-body hygiene has increased demand for portable shower trailers across various markets. For example, the medical, festival and entertainment, campsite management, disaster relief, and humanitarian aid industries all need these facilities to get clean. Healthcare workers can sanitize and protect public health, those experiencing homelessness and underprivileged communities can find relief, and getting dirty at work doesn’t mean that you have to, quite literally, bring work home with you. Shower trailers benefit lots of industries and people from all walks of life.  Trailers offering features like hot water, private cubicles, larger capacities, or ADA compliance means the experience with these trailers is also positive.  Demand is increasing worldwide, and the benefit to those who need and deserve it most is palpable. Noteworthy: Focusing Beyond Function And Prioritizing Luxury There is no doubt you’ve seen it before: You’re at an event, and a mismatched row of green, blue, or gray plastic porta-potties ruins the vibe. With everyone needing to go to the bathroom, you would think that better alternatives to these gross, smelly, too-hot, or too-cold eyesores would be more common.  Thankfully, they are getting to be.  Luxury restroom rentals are seeing an increase in demand as more and more people, events, and industries emphasize more than just function. Weddings, festivals, wineries, company gatherings, galas, you name it. Plenty of classy and upscale situations demand more than just a place to use the restroom. With such care for detail, event planners are looking to the mobile restroom trailer industry for help creating cohesive client experiences.  You can now find trailers that match a wide range of themes and aesthetics, with tons of unique features, sizes, and options, all because of this new demand: Are you searching for the perfect lighting to touch up your makeup? Well-lit vanity mirrors can ensure that you’re looking your best.    Are you at an event without cell service and realizing you forgot to email your boss? No sweat; there are trailers with Wi-Fi capabilities.  Want to escape the noise and spill some serious gossip? Large trailers that fit 10 or 12 people, with privacy dividers, are the perfect place to get the drama flowing. Are you at a hot summer event and need a minute to cool off? Air conditioning is available. Chilly winter event and need some warmth? There’s heating.  Some features are practical but tailored to a more upscale audience and are not required but certainly appreciated, while some are simply for aesthetics. A faux fireplace and marble-effect counters are unnecessary, but they certainly enhance the experience and leave attendees walking out saying, “Oh my goodness, did you see that bathroom?” That’s what the growth in this part of the luxury portable trailers is all about, leaving people in shock over how amazing the experience in an impermanent toilet can be. Aesthetics are trending, so aesthetic toilet trailers are too.  New AND Noteworthy: Convenient And Sustainable Technologies The increase in environmentally conscious decision-making has undeniably impacted markets and industries across the board. The portable toilet and shower trailer industry is no exception.  That’s precisely why solar-powered trailers are getting attention. They provide essential services without needing a connection to traditional power sources like coal, fossil fuels, and natural gas, which are unsustainable. The solar trend can’t leave portable hygiene services behind.  Moreover, certified green restroom trailers prioritize the environment in all aspects to ensure that waste management doesn’t harm the environment. The industry as a whole is seeing an increase in the phasing out of formaldehyde use in favor of bio-alternatives like microbe decomposition of fecal matter and water-conserving flush and sink systems. Regarding convenient technologies, restroom management apps are making the management of toilet and shower trailers more effortless than ever. They can track activity in trailers, locations, and tank levels to ensure fleets run smoothly and securely. This protects investments and prevents tank overflow, which can cause pollution and health concerns. Now, you don’t have to keep track of your trailers’ health, safety, and security, in addition to the million other things you need to stay on top of for your business. Oh, the ease of smartphones.  The portable toilet and shower industry is on the rise, serving both function- and fashion-focused clients simultaneously. With serving both ends of the spectrum at once, there is lots of excitement about what new innovations audiences can look forward to, but for now, service, sustainability, and style reign supreme.
